Clean Slate

The moment the warm water touched Bear’s mud-caked fur, after weeks spent surviving in that freezing barn, his wide eyes and flaring nostrils told a story. It was as if he couldn't quite comprehend that kindness could feel so utterly... warm. He’d lived on forgotten scraps of love, huddled against a relentless cold. Now, under that gentle stream, he wasn't just shedding dirt; he was shedding the gnawing fear, the heavy weight of fighting for himself day after day.

In that quiet moment, Bear taught me something profound, something that settled deep in my spirit:

Every single one of us deserves a clean slate.

No matter how long we've felt trapped in darkness—whether it’s the solitude of a forgotten barn, the ache of a broken heart, or the debris left by life's unexpected storms—there is always a chance to step back into the light. To let the simple, pure grace of compassion wash over us, and to truly trust that someone will help carry the load.

Of course, Bear's beautiful coat will get dirty again. And life, in its messy, beautiful way, will undoubtedly cover us in its own kind of grime. But every bath, every act of care given or received, whispers a powerful truth:

Restoration is always within reach.

Healing often begins when we are truly seen, truly cared for.

Kindness is the gentle water that washes away what holds us back.

So today, I hope you’ll give yourself permission to lean into that care—whether it's finding peace in a quiet moment, allowing someone to share your burdens, or extending grace to yourself when you need it most. Because a clean slate isn't about forgetting the past; it's about standing ready to step forward, unburdened and open to what's next.

Bear's journey, from that desolate barn to the embrace of this warm bath, is living proof: no matter how deep the mud, the next turn of the hose can truly set you free.

What part of your own story, I wonder, is ready for a little kindness and a fresh start?
